'99 S70 -- Can't open trunk

I need to replace the rear shocks on my S70 and the trunk does not seem to want to open. I believe there are shock mounts located in the trunk floor. I don't have a remote for the car, but the trunk won't open with either the release lever inside the driver's door, or the key in the rear lock. The rear lock feel a bit loose in the housing as well. Any suggestions?

Can it be accessed through the back seat removal?
That would get you into the trunk to see what is going on with the lock.

This is why I never set the seat back latches to the lock position with the levers inside the trunk--waiting for the day. Sometimes I wish there were a few less electrical things on these cars.

Can't really say how. Just kept at it with keys and it finally did open. Seems like the lock cylinder is a little loose in the trunk lid, though. Know of any cures for that?

Back to an intermittent no-trunk-open condition (and a lot of my spare parts are tucked away in there. . . ) Any suggestions for curing this? It seems faintly electrical. Neither the key nor the release button on the inside of the driver's door seem to make it want to function. Additionally, the release handle in the trunk lid seems less than securely anchored to the lid. There's just a wee bit too much "flex" in it for my comfort. Also, as noted before, the lock cylinder seems to float a bit (but only ever so slightly) in the handle mechanism. That is, of course, more noticeable when I go to open the trunk with the key than when I use the release lever on the door.
