Hi folks,
I am getting very frustrated with Volvo, whilst appreciating that my car is 15 years old, I have ordered parts still showing as available to order, and after a month, I still have no ETA, in spite of Volvo Sweden putting a VOR (vehicle off road) request on the parts.
So I have started to look into the possibility of having polybushes made up. The first company (Energy Suspension) have replied that there would be a $300/bush type mold cost and a $14/item ship cost, and then the cost per part after that. I would need to supply actual dimensions for trial parts. Also a minimum order quantity of 100/bush type. As the rear suspension has a total of 8 bushes this will be expensive!
Has anyone out there any experience of having this done on a more reasonable 'custom' basis?
I have actually found the 2 bushes I am looking for in Germany (for 200% price from Tasca or $60/bush US and I need 6). I may have to pay the amount as Volvo have still no ETA on the 6 parts I have on back order, but with the other parts I can make do with the originals with a lot of hard graft to make acceptable.
Any thoughts inputs are greatly appreciated.
Neil.

Did warn you...
Volvo will deliver when they feel like it. Or will cancel your order after 1 month. VOR request results in nothing for such an old car. As far as they are concerned you could just buy a new Volvo.
I presume your source is Skandix?
Oh and it's 7 bushings per side, 14 in total. 3 for the upper, 3 for the lower control arm and 1 for the stay. One bushing isn't intended to be changed requiring purchase of the lower control arm.

Yes you did warn me! I am currently waiting for confirmation that 5/6 of back order parts are now in Sweden. Hopefully Tasca will confirm tomorrow. They said it can then take 3-6 weeks to ship from Sweden! Are the Vikings rowing them over into a headwind??
And yes Skandix does have the 2 bushes I need but at twice the price.
You are also not quite correct on the 7 bushes/side, but there are a couple I'm not looking at. I'll update when I get more info. There are 3 on the stay that mounts to the lower control arm, 2 at the control arm, and one at the front by the jacking point. Then there are the 3 for the upper and 3 for the lower control arm, and also 2 more on the cross stays for adjusting the camber.
Have found one of the 2 'obsolete' parts I was looking for in Australia, and also a good fuel tank vent pipe (used) at PnP on the weekend. Spoke to a hydraulic pipe manufacturer today, but they couldn't help as all their pipe is imperial sizing. Ho hum. Back to the search.
Oh, also found one of the back order cross stay bushes in Japan!
Isn't this fun!!

The whole volvo idea of bushings is a bad design, on my 2004 c70 it has alloy front bushings. But the hole in it and the other parts is so big that it moves. I ordered some urithane sleeves, drilled to fit bolts, that grinded them a little to fit holes, it took out some of the slop and tighted the front end very well. I saw something similar being sold for WRX to tighten the bushing bolts up

I once ran into a guy who made his own moulds so he could restore a 1959 Holden. He learned how to create polyurethane and poured his own bushings!! He even made some engine mounts (they were way too uncompliant) and poly bushings for the rear leaf springs of a 1974 Dodge Colt (Australian Galant) I restored.
