2006 Volvo XC90 ABS rebuild. Had anti-skid service required

Post by blandis »

Wife got the Anti-skid service required message this morning. First time that has happened. Called my mechanic he says abs control unit is bad most likely.

Does Mattymoo rebuild those? If not any recommendations of who to send it to?

This has been discussed here close to 100x.
I have the same issue and not willing to replace the Clockspring, b/c there is no warranty the new Clockspring will fix it.
So I have learned to ignore this non-sense message.

Get the codes read before doing anything else. Any one of a large number of things can trigger an error.

I have also learned to ignore this message, the ABS still works fine and no new problems noted otherwise.

The two codes that showed are:
0130
0136

Seems to be brake pressure sensors. They are about $225 each as their are two of them.

You might want to look into changing your Haldex Fluid in the AOC.
I have had a similar experience, plus used different size tyres and now my Haldex sounds really bad.
From much reading it would appear that moisture can get into the Haldex via the breather. This reacts with the oil and you get lumps of black goo in the fluid. This blocks the filter which causes the oil pressure to go out of spec = anti skid error. Minor problem if you DO NOT IGNORE it and take the simple step of replacing the fluid and filter. Volvo apparently does not see the need to replace the fluid. VW on the other hand replaces Haldex fluid every 30000 km.
The Ford Kuga has the same Haldex gen 3 as the XC90. If you want to be convinced of the need to change Haldex fluid follow this link:

Mine is not awd. But did take a look at the link. I would say those with awd, might want to consider a fluid and filter change.
