ATE Brake Lines - How to verify authenticity, ATE web link tool

Post by regent »

Just got a pair of these at FCP:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 0-30665463

Does anyone know if there's a way to verify their authenticity; any partucular markings on the hose or on the crimps I should be looking for?

(I have the ATE Catalogue in PDF but could not ID what I got in the box with that) :?
Thanks in advance.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

I need a pair for the front 2001 V70XC, ATE is preferred, unless you think Meyle is better.

How was your install?
Fluid change etc?

Haven't done them yet but I don't expect surprises, especially with all the knowledge here - - I've got the Procedure and all tooling (incl. flare wrenches, power bleeder) even P-Blaster and a litre of DOT4 fluid. Just waiting to 'accumulate' some time on hand - maybe next oil change or so... Need to look at the front CTRL Arms' bushings, too.

I wouldn't think Meyle's hoses are better than the OEM ATE's (and I hope this is what I have according to the labels) now that I've exhausted all venues and still can't verify if the hoses are indeed what FCP Euro say they are...
It is what it is

The price for each ATE line varies in amount from $20 - $40.
Is it b/c of quality or a stock lifecycle?

I would think that the price variance between retailers is a function of the 'overhead'. German quality brake lines (ATE in particular) should have a pretty long shelf life (expectancy), no?

My initial post was about authenticity - how can I verify that the ones I got from FCP are indeed what it says on the plastic bag.
I would appreciate very much if someone has a hint or two...
Thanks

Take very good photos of the brake lines (close up, well lit) and send the large versions of the photos to ATE. Ask them. (Then let us know what they say.:-))
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Well,
That was exactly what I attempted just an hour before I posted here initially.
The only feedback that I got from ATE's contacts '[email protected]'; '[email protected]' was an out-of-the-office auto-reply. Sorry, I forgot to let everybody here know 'what they said'
Go figure.

I guess I will have to go back to school first (to improve my communication skills with a German accent), and then pickup the phone...

Where are your pics?
Post it here, and ask ATE to see your MVS post.
Expect a quick reply.

I was looking closely at the lines too.
The logotype ATE is etched on the metal connectors, and ATE letters appear on the rubber portion.
The numbers can decode factory, year, month etc.

OK,
After sitting up all night learning German, I finally got the brake line pictures attached; the verification link from the sticker to ATE site http://www.ate-brakes.com/www/ate_de_en ... on_en.html
...however, still does not seem to work for me :?

No response from the Ate Team to my email inquiry (yet) either.
I am seriously working on my near-native fluency in German though 8)

The numbers stamped on the crimps do not appear to be even a partial match with the numbers on the stickers in any combination (I am a numbers guy). The stamps on the crimps read like Ate but appear somewhat smudged; not sure if this is a good proof of authenticity...

What do you guys make of all this? Shall I dig some further or am I being (too)paranoid :D

Thanks in advance for not starting to laugh at me
