2005 XC90 died while on highway
While driving at 55 mph car lost power and died right in the middle of the road. Car was towed home where it will briefly fire then just turn over.

First check if you have fuel pressure.
If it is missing you can have faulty fuel pump or faulty fuel pump control module.

If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer

I did have similar issue with my S70. In my case, my car was turning over after 1 or 2 seconds of running, the problem was MAF sensor. You can test it easily. Just unplug the MAF sensor connection and run the car.
If it is the MAF sensor, the car will continue to run. In that case, try not to drive the car like that as much as possible because it might throw lots of not burned gas into exhaust system and that might damage the catalytic converter.
