P80 Driveability observation - ABS wheel sensor failure

Post by abscate »

Documenting this on my 1999 T5

I recently replaced my passenger side front wheel bearing and broke the ABS sensor wire during the job. I drove the car for a few days with the bad ABS sensor (ABS light and CEL P1550 code showing) and noticed a profound bogging at low rpm. There was about a 1/2 second delay to throttle response when accelerating. The way I usually drive I didn't notice it but if I tried to mash the pedal it really showed.

Im not sure if the ECU was remapping due to the lack of vehicle speed sensor (VSS) info or if perhaps I had reset the map clearing the codes when I diagnosed the problems. Im thinking away from the latter explanation, as the minute I fixed the ABS sensor and cleared codes, the bog disappeared.

My AUTEL unit reported P1550 as a compressor boost mismatch or some gibberish like that - I was worried something was up with my turbo for a few minutes. When I researched, I found that the Volvo P1550 was indeed related to VSS
