Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's stylish, distinctive P2 platform cars sold as model years 2001-2007 (North American market year designations).
Just put these (decent price!) on my 2007. I'll get a pic up soon. They really are ideal, haven't had a chance to drive it much but wow what a difference! Handling difference is really big. And I mated these springs to cheapo Gabriel front struts and kept the original Sachs rears (116k miles) and the ride is excellent.
Still completely love the ride with the soft shocks. No reason to pair these to performance (i.e. stiffer) shocks in my opinion. And the progressive spring rate is very impressive. I hauled a sizeable load of firewood (maybe 1000lbs or so) and it appeared to be pushing the limit of travel on the rear suspension, but never came close to bottoming out and as far as I can tell I never even hit the bump stops. Really amazed by these springs, totally worth it and no compromise in regards to ride height - doesn't even bottom out on steep driveways or curbs.
Sort of weird looking with those wheels.
If you like the OEM shocks consider at least changing the rears to new ones. At your miles, they're pretty well shot!

That's what I would have thought as well! But I pulled them out and tested them, they compressed more smoothly and were stiffer (and better quality overall) than the new ones I was going to replace them with...so I put them back on the car. Northern CA weather and smooth roads are pretty easy on vehicles so it's not unheard of for high mileage vehicles to still be in excellent shape, even wear items like shocks and brake discs, etc.
Lowered cars should have larger wheels and tires, plus those wheels are about the ugliest wheels ever.
I can say this too I just bought the same car last week, in white with the same wheels!
If it had 17s it would look (and handle) a damn sight better, big time.

I'll admit I'm not a big fan of these wheels either. I'll probably plastidip them black at some point, maybe that'll help. When these tires are worn I'll probably spring for new wheels, maybe I'll do 17s as you suggest.
Wanted to followup on my review of the Gabriel Ultra shocks I installed on the front. They have loosened up signficantly in only 10k miles (less than 1 year). On highways when hitting a pothole or other large bumps and high-ish speeds it is very disconcerting and nearly bottoms out, plus there is now too much body roll in corners. Seriously under-dampened now. At first it wasn't this bad. So, conclusion: Gabriel Ultra = sucks! And like I mentioned the rears were already bad even straight out of the box. Avoid Gabriel, get anything better.
I just put in an order for Bilstein B4 front and back.
Installed the Bilsteins this weekend and they are awesome! I highly recommend them. Smooth and sporty and quiet (somehow they seem to dampen road noise more than the Gabriels).
