1998 V70 Noisy AC compressor bearing repair

After driving through floodwater (ocean water) my AC compressor bearing gas started to whine, ive run the vehicle without the serpentine belt and the noise is almost definatly coming from the AC. ive turned the pulley by hand and it feels alittle loose but okay, should I worry its going to seize??..IVE TRIED wD40 but with no success ....the noise is annoying at high RPM.

Ive asked two mechanics about replacing the bearing and both looked at the location and said the whole unit needs to come out (big job) ...has anyone changed the bearing or clutch without removing it from the vehicle??...is it possible

You can drop the compressor enough to replace the clutch without breaking the AC lines

ok thanks that's my next plan of attack when I get the new bearing, there are lots of things in the way including the AC filter. I will have to very careful not to damage the clutch

Re bearing: get good name such as Nachi, Koyo, NTN, NSK or INA.
There is an ebay seller selling old stock INA bearing for US$10 or so.
