Hi there.
In serious need of some help. Last Friday i opened the drivers door on my 99 V70 and when I went to close it and the latch was stuck in the closed position. I Pulled the exterior handle to try to release to no avail. Managed to get it to come unlocked using a knife to apply a little pressure and pulling the door handle. Took a few good strong closes to get it to stay locked. I'm now stuck with a door that wont open at all.
The interior and Exterior door releases do not work and they feel as if they are not connected to anything. I saw a video on you tube on how to pop the lock using a small flat head driver pressing down on the brass lever in the mechanism and tried this. This did nothing and the video i saw showed the lever to be much further forward and once pressed the door pops right open. I tried for a good 30 mins to try pop the door but i am back to square one.
Can any tell me any other way without totally wrecking the door (i don't mind any cosmetic damage to door or door panel just want the bloody door to open and close). If i can get it open im hoping to fix it if not replace the whole door lock, but right now im stuck getting in and out via the passenger door or going all Dukes of Hazard on it. Failing that its ambitious exit via the sunroof!
Any help would be amazing!
Thanks
Derek

This is the video I watched on Youtube and tried this technique and got no joy. I did read an article on this site saying just smash the lock mechanism with a hammer and chisel till it gives way and opens. Then replace? Anyone tried this or any thoughts?
Thanks

Can you open it from the inside? Crawling in the opposite side to do so isn't fun, but the mechanism is a little different on the inner door handle than the outer one. That way you could tell where the problem might be located. You will have to take the inner door covering/trim off to repair it. There are catches for the outer door handle that could be broken, or if the inner door fails to work, then you have a more difficult time.
Also, when you were closing, was the latch in the open position on the side of the door?

Just went through this on my own V70; the video from Robert Spinner above is very helpful, but in the end, I think you will just have to get the door open, the panel removed and switch out the entire door lock latch assembly.
Of course before you buy a new latch, check the strike plate catcher on the b pillar and other physical elements of the door to see if something is impeding operation.
I just bought a new inner door latch and the inner handle assembly for $11 at the local junkyard. Replaced mine and all is fine. It's really not that hard and all the tutorial videos out there make the operation fairly clear.
I tried to find a way to rig my latch up, but at the end of the day I just felt more comfortable replacing it since i don't want to keep fiddling with removing the door panel.
