Hi!
On my 96 850 R with 190.000 mls on the clock I replaced the PCV system 2 months ago when I purchased it - as a routine tuneup and because rspis rubber glove test indicated a clogged pcv. I was also getting some smoke from the dipstick. So i took everything apart and replaced all hoses and the oil trap, even though the old ones didn´t look dirty. I tried to clean the ports where the pcv lines connect to the motor, but they didn´t look very dirty eiher
But I´m still getting smoke from the dipstick and the glove still inflates a bit if I rev it up (it stays pretty saggy under idle).
In the meantime I also cleaned the ptc valve which wasn´t clogged at all . And I had a compression test done (200 -200 -200 - 200 - 185 psi), so worn rings shouldn´t be a problem. The car seems to have a bad RMS though. It´s not bad and 2 mechanics suggested not to fiddle with it right now. I´m not burning oil, the motor runs great.
So why is the glove still blowing up and oil coming from the dipstick?
Am I missing something?
96 850 R pcv issue?

What does the compression look like? You could be getting blowby around the rings which also results in high crankcase pressure.

The compression is 200 psi on 4 cylinders and the one on the very right has 185psi.
I had the throttle closed while doing the compression test (stupid me). This looks good to me and within factory specs for the turbo motors, right?

200 is way high for a well used turbo. 156psi to 185psi is what a NEW engine should read.

Yes, it might. But what Russ is saying is that the gauge is perhaps not correct, which is common. You just compare the cylinders to each other. But probably best to just do the test over, the right way, and see what you get. Compression is not likely a problem but now that you started looking, might as well get some numbers you can use as a reference going forward.
