2000 S70 ETS, ABS, Brake Light

Post by deardeergod »

The current faults I get are P1620, P0600, P0121, P1611, P1612, P1608, and P1651. The check engine light was also on when the codes were pulled.

The problem has occured a couple dozen times over the past few months but is very hard to reproduce. I will be driving down the road when the vehicle will accelerate sharply for a second then there will be a clunk and the ETS, ABS, and Brake light come on. When the lights come on I lose my tach, speedo, and odo. The car will run with an engine roll and when starting from a stop it acts like traction control is on. After being shut off it needs around 15 minutes to reset and upon restarting will run fine albeit with the ETS light still on. On a regular shut off the throttle body will beep for a few seconds as it does its alignment but when it's shut off when it's faultered it will go on for a couple minutes.

Since the problem started the throttle body and the brake booster diaphragm position sensor have been replaced. My mechanic and I believe it to be an electrical problem, maybe from a chafed wire. I'm wondering if the cable that connects to the throttle body can be replaced. I don't know if it goes to a solder joint. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to MVS!! You've certainy some major dramas there!!

That is a lot of failure at one time. I would begin with removal of both the ECM & TCM (special tool required) and thoroughly clean the edge connector. This is not an isolated ETM issue. There are wires common to ETM, transmission, and/or ABS that are triggering these errors.

The fact that the throttle doesn't reset indicates that there is no marriage between the throttle and ECM by Canbus. From the amount of codes it seems there are communication problems with mutliple modules at the same time.
