Virgin Volvo owner

Post by Djayexodus »

i just purchased my first Volvo last week an 09 s60 2.5t fwd which seems to have been adult owned, driven as well as well taken care of. It has 102k miles purchased from a used car lot that took it on a trade and was able to drive and check it out before they had it long enough to even detail much less hide any possible problems. I'm in love with the car 38 yrs old, not a teen, however would like to have some as much as possible added hp but w/o jeopardizing the integrity or life of the motor/ tranny, etc. Any advice for a first time Volvo owner in my shoes with 1k to 2k to invest. I purchased new set of tires and plan on tranny flush ,oil change,( possible timing belt? ), plugs. Thank you for your time and knowledge.....

Welcome to the "family"... definitely get the Timing Belt if you can't confirm that it was recently and properly done. Depending on how hard it's been driven and how well it's been maintained, you may need a new water pump soon. You are probably not far away from needing one or five coil packs as well.

Keep that 2k in the bank for a year, change oil and drive it for 10,000 to confirm your feelings about the cars condition.

Pull plugs and measure compression. Replace plugs while you have them out - 25 buck job.

Once you fall in love with it, you won't mind the first 2k bill.

And - fix suspension and brakes to tip top condition FIRST. STOP before go fast. Thats for everyone else.

Welcome to the best group ever!

Normally the water pump will last until the second timing belt change, as per Volvo main dealer recommendation. If replaced, it is important to use an original Volvo part as aftermarket water pumps have proved to be particularly poorly made.

Timing belt, roller and tensioner choices range from Gates to original Volvo parts.
