I pulled off the plastic underbody splash guard cover that mounts just below the bumper and forward of the wheels (1999 v70 XC)
Inside of this shield and dangling down are 2 sensors. I think the one on the driver side is the ambient air temp sensor (9125603). Is that right?
On the passenger side is another sensor - and the "neck" of this one (the part that you push in to mount it) is broken off. If I trace the wire back it eminates from a group just behind the passenger side headlight. I am holding it by the part that does the sensing where it broke. Can anyone tell me what it is?
thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I believe what you have in your hand in the picture is the ambient temp sensor. Does it fit into the RH side (LH when viewed from the front of the car) into a hole on the plastic undertray to the side of the air intake? If so, this I believe is the ambient air temp.
I'm trying to remember where the other one plugged into at the front.
My version of Vida does not recognise that part number, it could have been superceded.
Neil.

Sorry, I lied (or Vida did), search did not find the part, but when I went in manually I found it listed on a 99 V70Xc as outer temp sensor (9125603) for 99-.
It does not show where it actually fits, but only somewhere at the front on a bracket with the altitude sensor. That I recall on our 98 V70 Xc was on a bracket on the RH side inner fender mounted onto a bracket by the RH hood catch.
I'll keep looking for what the other one is that you show in the picture.
Neil.

Hi Neil- thanks for checking.,,do you (or anybody else) have any ideas? Again, i think The DRIVERS side (US) is the ambient air temp. I'm wondering about the PASSENGER side.
Thanks
Steve

Like I said, does the one on the RH side of the car fit into a hole in the side of the cold air intake for the radiator and intercooler area?
One is for your temp sensor for your internal temp gauge readout and the other for the engine management system to assess the air input temp.
I can't find the one in your hand reference in VIDA. Maybe someone else has an idea where Volvo has randomly put this?
Neil.

Hi Scott
Sorry, my original post was confusing:
Both of the sensors were dangling from above when I pulled off the plastic shield - but I think I read somewhere that they are supposed to be fitted/mounted by pushing into holes in the plastic shield from above. There are holes that I can see in the shield so this would make sense.
And that would make the passenger side..."engine management system to assess the air input temp". Would anyone have a part number for this and any more explanation? The photo I attached in my original post above is the passenger side (RH) sensor. That is the one I am unsure of what it is/does.
Thanks, Steve
Sorry, my original post was confusing:
When I said "passenger" side, I mean RH side (if you are sitting in the car). When I said "drivers side" that would be LH side when you are in the car.Ringo wrote:I pulled off the plastic underbody splash guard cover that mounts just below the bumper and forward of the wheels (1999 v70 XC)

So I think you are confirming that the Drivers side/LH sensor is the ambient air temp? See photo attached JUST NOW. It appears to be Volvo #9125603One is for your temp sensor for your internal temp gauge readout and the other for the engine management system to assess the air input temp.

Hi Steve,
Had the camera out in the garage so took a few photos for you to try to show where the sensors plug in. although my car is a 200 (r) so the front air dam is slightly different, I recall our old 98 V70Xc being similar.
Hope this helps,
Neil.

Neil, sorry I appreciate that you are trying to help, but can you tell me what you're trying to show me in those photos? I'm really not trying to figure out where they go - I need to know what the part number is because the one on the passenger side is broken.
Can anyone tell me what the Volvo part number is of the sensor I am holding in the first photo I posted?
Please note: I guessed that the DRIVERS side is the ambient air temp and I think that's been confirmed. So all I really am just looking for what the one on the Passenger side is...what does it do - what is the Volvo part number. It's shown in the first photo I posted passenger side.
thanks

That's the Ambient Air Temp Sensor. There should be 2 of them - one on driver's side & one on passengers' side. They clip to the front air dam.Ringo wrote:I pulled off the plastic underbody splash guard cover that mounts just below the bumper and forward of the wheels (1999 v70 XC)

We hit a truck-tire tread once & knocked ours off our '99 V70. Immediately busted it, and the CEL came on. I went to a U-Pull-It & grabbed a couple. We were back in business.
