Hello all,
I have a 1993 940 wagon. This is what's going on. When I'm driving down the freeway, the A/C blows cold. (around 40 degrees) However, when I'm in stop and go traffic, or just plain stopped, the A/C will stop and warm air will start to come out. If I get going again, or get on the gas, the air will start to cool again. BUT, if I continue to be in stop and go mode, and leave the A/C on, the car temp will start to overheat. So, I have to then turn off the button, and either wait for the engine temp to cool, or switch the selector to the hot area of the dial.
If anyone can shed some light on this problem, I would be very thankful! I'm tired of sweating in my car.
Thanks,
Toby

Sounds like the 12 volt auxillary fan that sits in front of the air conditioning condenser (condenser sits in front of radiator) may not be cycling on to provide extra cooling...either because it is seized or the rad thermal/relay has failed. In northern climates the fan will seize up and rust due to road salt and infrequent use. You can disconnet the fan by following the leads from the fan to the disconnector...run test wire connects directly to battery and see if it spins. If it does then most likely the thermo-relay at rad.
