Purchase Plat edition
I'm looking at purchasing a platinum edition 850. The car is about 2hrs away and it has about 162k miles. The catch is.. the timing belt was shown to be done about 20k miles ago BUT.. that was 8yrs ago by the sticker. I would like to drive it back but worried about the age on the belt, what do you guys think ? A tow bill that far would be expensive for sure.

Take off the cover and do a careful inspection of the belt for cracks, and all of the pulleys for wobble.
Then fire it up, drive her home, and enjoy.

I agree, check for cracks and wobbles, come prepared with the parts.
Probably a good idea you didn't post the listing of it, someone else might swoop in haha (me).

Guys....if it was replaced 20k miles ago, even in that age it will not have a single crack, not to mention wobbles.
I'm always replacing timing belts in 7-8 years interval with around 70-80k km.Neither one of them had a single crack on it,with all of the numbers and marks still readable like it was there for few months only.

Unless the belt was directly exposed to the elements for what ever reason, the belt is fine for quite a while even though it's been sitting.

Unless it's directly exposed to oil from oil leak in timing belt area.
Coolant isn't agressive to belt, but oil can short it's life for 60%.

The timing belts usually don't fail, it's usually something else like the tensioner or water pump that fails first.phils94850 wrote:I'm looking at purchasing a platinum edition 850.
