brand new tranny, now overheating!!

Post by Saabfisticated »

so I just got a new transmission installed about 6 mnths ago on my MY07 xc90 3.2 AWD. Now I noticed a little bit of tranny fluid in the wheel well. After investigating it looks like its coming off the "overflow" white plastic pc under the ECU. I was told I have a bad tranny cooler, but the fluid is brand new, it wsa kind of bad before the new one wsa installed and i was doing partial changes, 3 qts at a time then I finally took it in before a road trip to have it repaired. I don't want my brand new tranny to go out on my so any help figuring out where to start would be appreciated. I've read where people install larger tranny oil coolers but that is normally when they are towing or pulling loads, this is my wifes car and she just drove it about 110 miles today and I just noticed it tonight. shop said it's probably a clogged cooler but I think that's odd seeing how there is brand new fluid in it. I feel like it would've clogged earlier if it was going to clog. what other possiblities do you think it could be? The fluid seems to be coming out below ecu as mentioned out of a white plastic valve. I don't have cash to take it back in as I'm still paying off new tranny. Let me know if you have any ideas, I also have a video I can upload. Thx in advance for any help!

Hello there,

- CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL -

I believe your transmission is overfilled. It will happened if the right procedure is not followed. Temperature of the fluid must be between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius.
I will ask others if it is possible, please provide link to the procedure.
This is my bet and I am very sure this is your problem. Could be clogged cooler but never ever heard of such a thing for transmission. Perhaps I am still too young ;)
Good luck.
Flying on 2009 XC90 R-design 3.2L AWD and 2006 XC90 2.5T AWD. Volvo owner forever.
