2005 XC90 front wiper issue.

Post by Tatra »

Hi all.

I have a front windshield wiper issue on 2005 XC90

A couple of nights ago my daughter woke me up late at night during a heavy rain storm informing me that her car is all 'Lighted up'
I went out and looked at the car, all the lights were on, the windshield wipers were activated.... The key was in my hand.

I couldn't shut it down.
All I could do at the time is I disconnect the battery.

Next morning I attempted to re-connect the battery, all lights came on, all the dash lights came on as well. Including the radio was playing. Again, the ignition key was in my hand.
I started the car, it turned on.
I had no control of front windows, wipers, mirrors, sunroof, lighting or the radio.
I figured that perhaps some water went in.
I have placed a heater inside for next 12 hours. All issues went away except the front wiper still doesn't work.

I have checked ALL fuses, bumped the motor, which works fine.
I have checked the relays which work as well in my hand.

I do not get 12 volts at where the relays sit. No matter what the stalk position is.
The rear wiper works fine, so does the front and rear spray. I can also see the rain sensor light come on.
After the initial issue ALL went back to normal but the front wipers.

I haven't checked the stalk switch yet tho.

I have read on the net however, that the ECM might be damaged.

So the question are:
- Can the ECM be damaged showing only one symptom while all the other devices work?
- Is it possible to scan the ECM for damage?

or...

Any other suggestions?

2005 was the first year with the CEM issue
This video shows how to remove the CEM (the clips are not easy to guess)
always with the battery disconnected

Just looking at the CEM usually it's apparent if there was water dripping on the unit
