02 sensors

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

02 sensors

Post by lbrownin4f2u »

My check engine light came on a couple days ago. The dealer said both O2 sensors were defective to the tune of $855. Please, someone tell me there's a more reasonable alternative. If this is typical, I have to dump this car ASAP. BTW, it's a 2002 S80. We bought it used about six months ago. My wife loves the car, but we're not millionaires, knowwhatImean? Any advice would be much appreciated!

I had an O2 sensor go out on my 2000 S80 T6 just after purchasing mine, and it came to a total of almost $700 to fix including my tow! The day I got my car back, a buddy told me that the O2 sensor was just a thin wire that can often be wiped down with a piece of tissue and some alcohol and it will be good as new. I would not suggest doing anything yourself till double checking that with a proffesional first though.
P.S. I was also told that the wire was very thin, so be carefull not to damage it if you do attempt!

Your friend is wrong and is confusing the MAF sensor with the O2 sensor. Anyway, you can change these yourself. $350 tops for both sensors (together). 30 minutes and the right tools to change them yourself. Don't let a dealer rip you off.
