1994 850 Manual Trans Noises

Post by Carboncopy »

Hi all,

My 850 has been making strange noises and I am concerned my throwout bearing or clutch is going. It seems to make a metallic "click" noise when it goes into gear, and there is a strange faint squeaking noise that occurs mostly in 4th gear but seems to come from the passenger side. Gear oil has been recently changed, so its not that. Hoping someone might have some insight as to what it might be. Thanks in advance.

It could very well be the throwout bearing. Mine got to a point where it was clacking pretty bad anytime I put in put in the clutch but it would quiet down somewhat when I was actually moving. It was really noticeable at the drive through at a burger joint where the sound would echo off the wall while stopped in line. Mine got so bad that it ate the fingers off of the pressure plate and it wouldn't disengage anymore. That, of course, happened a couple of hundred miles away from home and I had to drive home without a clutch at all.
