Engine Swap between V70 and V70 xc

Post by rax_tempus »

Hello,

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I have a 2000 Volvo V70 that was wrecked into. The engine is still fine, the damage was to the rear body. I found a 2000 V70 XC on Craigslist with a jacked engine but the body is perfect. Are the two compatible? Can I just swap out my good engine into the good body if I purchase it?

Also, the V70xc is AWD, the V70 is FWD, would that matter at all in this swap?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Best Regards

Is your V70 turbo or n/a?

V70xc would have a LPT engine.

Do you know if the V70 donor car is a GLT or a T5?

If it's a GLT, it should have an identical motor to your XC. If it's a T5, it's a very similar motor, but with more power. ;)

Perhaps someone can speak to whether there are any gotchas to putting a T5 motor into a GLT/XC engine bay. (All I can think of is that different variants of the car have slightly different oil cooler line routing...)

If you put in the T5 engine (and the turbo attached to it), you will want the T5 ECU as well. Otherwise, no gotchas.

WAIT ... :)

Some of my info is bad. On a 2000, you can not switch the ECU. Apologies, I am stuck in 98-and-prior mindset. A T5 engine will physically swap in just fine, but I am not so certain about engine management, it will either be seamless or a bit off ...
