I got one to replace my front sensor (1994 850T). This came with a splicing block, but the wires are longer than the stock connector, so no splicer is needed. That is, unless I can figure out how to remove the pins from the O2 connector.... I'd rather be neat and use the connector block and new pins...

as a follow up, the Bosch splicer that is included in the kit is fiddly as heck. If I had to do it again, I would get the connector pins and splice them on to the wires instead. I haven't had enough drive time to see if the planar is any improvement, but the old original about 100K thimble sensor was going out anyway...

I've never used one but there are many reports on the Volvo forums of people having trouble with these Bosch universal sensors.

The one for your car that is plug and play is the Bosch 15097, that one works every time (as long as you don't end up with a counterfeit one - there's always something!).

I've read those. The planar is an improvement over the thimble type. Less current draw on the heater and quicker response. Seems to be working fine so far.

Interesting, cool keep us posted. The trouble previously has been interpreted to be with the splice, not the sensor. The sensor actually uses the wire as part of its function, so if the splice is not done correctly or well or whatever, then the readings are wrong. Is the planar type somehow not sensitive to this, or not as sensitive?

I don't know about that, but I got the 02 kit with the official Bosch splicer, just to be sure. As I said, putting new pins on the end of the wire and re using the old connector housing would have been easier. The kit didn't say how long the wire is, but it is plenty long for the front sensor. I should have disconnected the battery to reset the engine computer, but it is re - learning the new 02 sensor. I'm going to disconnect the battery today and let the engine computer start from zero. The problem began with an 02 code, so I decided to try the planar instead of the thimble, but stay with Bosch. From what I read, the planars are used on newer cars because of their faster response and faster warm up time, less drain because of a revamped 02 heater, which reduces emissions. I hope it will also improve gas mileage a little too. Prices for the 1527 are all over the place, and the same number results in 02 sensor only or the kit. I got mine cheap ($38.00) because the box was damaged.

as a wrap, I have a small increase in MPG's, better on the highway. I am not sure if the trip computer (MPG's , outside temp, Miles before empty, etc.) is hooked up to engine CPU, but I see a quicker refresh rate in instant MPG read out. Also when coasting with my foot off the gas, the display drops to 99.x, which it wouldn't do before - it would drop to maybe 79 at best. . Car seems to be more responsive, too. Hard to tell, since the original 02 sensor was throwing a code. But all in all, I think it's worth the extra money for the planar. Just avoid the splicing kit and put new connector pins on the end of the wire, instead..
