Hi,
I've bought my 850R 1996 less then a year ago. The car was not running for almost a year.
When I had it running it was shifting hard. So I replaced every engine mount. (A total of 5) That dit not fix the problem. Then I've replaced the TCM. And then Replaced the fluid.(http://www.ardeca-lubricants.be/en/oilp ... 13/?p=1113)
Still no luck.
Then I replaced the whole gearbox(one with only 180.000KM) and TPS. Still shifting jerky. I Saw that I had to much oil in the gearbox. (1,5 inch above the HOT mark when HOT.) I removed already some oil. I've had a hard bang when I put it in reverse from drive. That's much less now.
What's the next thing I can do? I just want it to work with an automatic gearbox. But this is driving me crazy. Replaced everything (I think) and it still has hard shifting.
I'm thinking of rebuilding my old transmission. But it must be something else.
Kind Regards,
Kevin

None of the turbo 4-speeds really shift super smoothly, especially above 2500 RPM and heavily into the boost. Drive to reverse jerk is pretty normal as well.
What do you quantify as a "hard shift"?
Have your subframe mounts deteriorated entirely (common with age)?

Uhm, hard to explain. When I go full throttle I'm getting boost. But after the gear change the boost is a lot less. And it goes in gear with a bit of a bang. (Not hard)
It's harder in 2-3. Also when I'm driving 60KM/h the gearbox is whining a bit.

Hard 2-3 shift under power is pretty normal. R to D or D to R with a bit of a thump is normal.
And I think it is first gear that whines a bit.

It does not shifts like this. I'll try to make a video tomorrow.

Is there a way to reset the TCM or so? So it's going to relearn the adaptation of the shifting and the TPS?
This morning a V50 2.0D was faster on the highway... I think that should not happen.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes, that should reset it.
As far as my Automatic: 1st gear whines, shift from 1-2 oder 2-3 (not sure which) is rather rough. Shifts are firm under power, but smooth when cruising.
Boost drop: for me I get a short spike and then the boost drops a bit during a shift. I think this is normal behavior.
When I bought it shifted pretty terrible, a fluid flush fixed that.
I'm not sure if you are just oversensitive or maybe there is another porblem.... Maybe also do a stage 0 on the engine and suspension. When you get chopped by a Diesel it might be a sign that you don't get full performance. But also newer cars are better in that way, especially with an automatic it is a bit frustrating as you have to floor it, it shifts down, builds boost, off you go. In that timeframe the newer cars mostly accelerate while you are waiting for things to happen
Also the 4speed gearing sucks for highway driving, a 5 or 6 speed in newer cars is an advantage.
A 2.0 Diesel might be faster initially but you should outrun it once you get full boost and build a bit of speed. At least that is my experience.

I've only driven in 3 automatic cars. 1) Jeep Cherokee 2) Mercedes C200 1999 3) Volvo V70 2001.
All of them shifts better then my 850. Maybe I am oversensitive.
I'm doing a stage 0 on it now. Replaced every line/hose in the engine compartment, all the engine mounts etc...
Sometimes my kickdown does not turn in. How to fix that?

Plausible. The S70 is one of the firmest-shifting autos I've driven. The 5-speed Volvos were MUCH more smooth, but the old 4-speed boxes are much more durable.kevinwalter wrote:I've only driven in 3 automatic cars. 1) Jeep Cherokee 2) Mercedes C200 1999 3) Volvo V70 2001.

Here is the video:
Do you think this is normal? When it shifts it vibrates a-lot.
