Immobilized.

Post by 57gretsch »

I have done a search to find the method to disable the alarm system.
I got in the car. Sat on the key fob and it locked the door. Took it out and tried to open the doors from the remote. Nothing. Not even the switch on the door actuated the locks. Now the car is imobilized.
The 2000 v70c.f. does not have the210/211 relay to jumper.

What can I do?

Replace the batteries in the remote and unlock it.

Since it allready locked the doors when you sat on it it's working but batteries could be dead since it won't unlock it.

I doubt that it bacame damaged when you sat on it.

Car battery ok?
What happens when you try to unlock the doors with a key?

It is the remote.
Not transmitting signal. Whatever I did...I think I may have damaged one of the buttons or the circuit board. Battery shows 3 volts.
The 56 lead in the starter relay. Ground that out and you're on the road again. Still not able to remote lock or unlock. An inconvenience at this point. Dealer. New fob. 100+ dollies.

Open it in try to find out what's wrong with it...visually.

Try to make it work while it's opened and battery inserted.Wiggle it,while pushing unlock button at the same time.

It locked the car when you accidentally sat on it so it's not completely broken.

That's what i would try.

Check the owner's manual?

http://www.new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs ... a.htm#pg46

Turning off (stopping) the alarm

If the alarm is sounding, it can be stopped by pressing the UNLOCK button
on the remote control or by unlocking the driver's door with the key.

If the alarm is stopped with the remote control, this will be confirmed
by two short flashes from the turn signals.

Well....
Went to the dealer. New fob. Programming.
Apparently...the new updated software for Vida cannot communicate with my 2000 XC. Turns out my old fob is transmitting signal. Whatever happened that day is a mystery.
But...the tech mentioned He had seen this before. Appartent failure of the fob. It still transmits but the signal sent may not be the correct one. No idea how that can happen.
So...I am stuck with the manual locking. Fuel door ajar and contortions to lock/unlock the tailgate. Waiting to hear back from the dealer for a solution. I did offer my old laptop running vadis. They declined.

Can't wait to hear what they have to say.

That is going to be a tough one. The way that the remote is programmed to the car is that there is a number on the package that the remote comes in and that number is keyed into the order form for the software download. The number is not on any place except the original package. The same thing applies to the key. Without the original code number from your existing keyfob there really isn't anything they can do with it.

I had to order a remote for my last '99 and I really wanted them to keep the original package for me so that I could keep it in the service records but they pitched it as soon as the software order was placed.

The remote may have been damaged resulting
in an RF signal but no actual data or corrupted
data being transmitted.

That seems to be the consensus.
Whatever I did when I say on it....
I checked the circuit board several times. And again once I found my magnifier. No visible signs of damage.
The software thing does beg several questions. The new software doesn't support the older models? Is it just an oversight of the programmers of the new software? Will there be a solution?

As far as I know the software hasn't really changed but it needs to have the correct information for the package to be compiled properly. The way the software is done is to do a download from the car and then the additional or changed device is added to the package through the software order screen. The download should retain prior information unless you have reached the maximum number of devices. I think the maximum number of keys or remotes is four or five, I can't remember for sure, and they need to start dumping old key or remote numbers if they get to the max. If they have the keys and the remotes they can determine which numbers are good.
