1989 740 Sedan Ventalation

Post by ahavington »

I just bought a used 1989 740 sedan and love it.... but.... it is blowing pieces of black spongy insulation material out of the dash vents! Not a big problem but my wife isn't too happy about it. what is it and what can I do to stop it? thanks

It's some time since I owned a 740 but working from what my family calls a rapidly declining memory I think you will find that the flaps in the dash vent actually close onto black sponge material to create a seal when you do not want air coming from them.

The vents can be removed by gently prising them out and you should be able to clean off the old stuff and replace it with any self adhesive foam draught proofing strip.
