2002 C70 insane oil leak

Post by Mars »

Oil seems to be spraying out from behind the the front crank pulley, i did the old "rubber glove test" to see how badly the PCV system it working and the glove was almost sucked in to the motor.

So if the system is operating correctly how could the crank seal blow out? Is there something else i should look for? When you stop the car oil is dripping out from behind the crank at a fast pace.

2002 C70, 2.3 Turbo, Auto, 133K miles. Timing belt done by the PO 2 days ago.

I'd suggest you ask the PO if they replaced the crank front main seal when they did the Timing belt. They can be hard to fit even when you use Volvo parts. Also ask what brand the used as normally I only use Corteco or Volvo for this as others tend to be problematic.

Can you tell if it is originating from behind the cam sprockets or at the crankshaft? My bet is on the camshafts but I suppose that the CVVT hub itself could be leaking. The mist of oil seems to suggest that a CVVT hub has a crack or something but I have never seen one leak. Oil pump / front main leaks are unusual but not unheard of.

Well i know the intake cam is not the one leaking but i can see behind the VVT sprocket. I dont have a cam lock tool, i dont have an impact gun to take the crank nut off. Its just too much for me to deal with. I think i'm just going to put the car on Craig's List for $750 and be done with it. I hate to give up but its just too much work.
