98 V70 glt sqeaky noise

Post by stephansvolvo »

This noise has gotten progressively worse. The noise seems to be coming from the front area around the alternator but, not quite sure. Any thoughts? I took avideo but I can't upload it so torero will give it another go..

As always thanks for the input.

Take a length of vacuum hose and use it as a stethoscope. Get that one end in your ear good, and touch the other to various parts of the engine, to see where the noise is coming from. There are so many moving parts around there, that tracking down squeaks can be hard.
On mine, it was the tensioner for the serpentine belt, as well as a little contribution from the alternator. Your results may vary. ;)

Interesting. Never thought of using that for a steth. That's the exact area I was thinking. I'll give it a shot. Thanks

You can try running it without the serp belt, to ensure it is one of those pulleys and not in the timing path. Stethoscope is easier, give that a shot.
