Shifting into reverse

Post by kippster41493 »

I have an automatic 94 850 turbo. When I shift into reverse occasionally you don't feel it shift at all, most of the time you feel a little bit of a bump (normal from what I've read on here) and sometimes you would think it was moving at 10 mph then shifted to reverse it slams so hard. Anyway to calm it down a little? I'm kind of waiting for the day I do a drain and fill and find bits of reverse falling out....

I have not done a drain and fill on the vehicle, I haven't had it long and I have not checked the fluid either. Could it just be that the drain and fill needs to be done?

Both of my 850ies do that. Reverse goes in from super smooth to a well noticable clunk on both (and a really hard bang on the 854 when the tranny is hot). So i think this is normal. Just like the park position. Sometimes it goes in smooth as silk, sometimes you feel a clunk. It depends on the position of the gears and drivetrain elements to each other, I guess. And the age and condition of the tranny fluid and the torque mounts.

My parking gear does the same thing, I feel like the parking pawl is going to snap one of these days! I try to slowly come off the brake pedal when I put it in park so its more gentle. I'm getting kind of sick of parking on an incline and the bumper hits the curb/ parking curb because it doesn't fully go in until the pawl slips into place.

Being that it slams into gear when the tranny is hot, is that some sort of sign that it isn't cooling properly as if the fluid is bad, cooling line is getting clogged? Am I just over thinking this?
