2000 V40 engine replacement

Post by olddaddy »

Our 2000 V40 needs to be rebuilt or to have the engine replaced. We had a major overheat and the engine is totally done for. I have not found any engine rebuilders who will do the engine and have started looking for a replacement. I know there are some differences in mounts and transmissions after 2000. Will any year, 2000-2004 V40 or S40 swap into my 2000 V40? Any issues with computers and security systems? I'm thinking longblock from a donor with all my externals which are good.

Well, I bought a running engine from an 03 V40 with 70K miles. I'm going to swap it into my 00 V40. I'm wondering if there are any service/maintenance items to do while installing the engine. Turbo oil line, hoses, sensors, etc. Anything to take care of while I have the engine out and one going back in? My externals are all new, alternator, starter, AC compressor, belts and idler. Anything to do on the tranny while it's accessible?

I exchanged the transmission in my 2001. I can't think of anything that needed to be done before install except maybe the axle and oil return seals.
But even those can be replaced after installation. I would do a fluid change.

You may consider checking/replacing worn PCV parts.
Perhaps the VVT hub also. But again, those can be done with the engine installed.

Thanks for the reply. I have pretty much all those things on my list already. My VVT hub and PCV system are both recent rebuilds and will go onto the new engine. Probably do hoses and oil lines, filters etc. also.

Picked up the donor engine today, clean and intact. It is a 70K engine and hopefully with all my rebuilt externals will give good service for many years to come. That is the plan anyways! I ordered all new cam/crank seals, oil filter, new belts, hoses, oil lines etc. Will do the O2 sensors while they are accessible. Probably a few more things as we go. All the motor mounts, radiator hoses, pulley tensioner, idler, coils, plugs, wires, radiator are new already.
