2001 Volvo S80 T6 Exec Coolent Expansion Tank/coolent sensor

Post by ErikMichael612 »

Looking for anyone who has had any issues with their Expansion Tank (the tank that holds the coolant for their engine) I searched through the forums and found no luck on this particular matter. My Expansion Tank has a pin-sized hole in it right now. I found the parts I need (New Tank and Coolent Level Sensor) but am too much of a chicken S **t to install it. Has anyone ever installed one of these? I just had my radiator replaced too- this just added icing on my cake. On the surface, it does not appear to be difficult, but I on the other hand am no mechanic- let alone a Volvo mechanic which seems to be an entirely different breed of mechanic.

Thanks to any one with insight.

I just replaced the coolant expansion tank on my 99 s80. It is a fairly simple job, even if you don't know what you're doing, like me. It also had a pin-sized hole in it and the nipple on the bottom was completely broken. I am not sure how different the setup on the 01 turbo is, but wasn't too difficult. After replacing the tank I discovered a crack in my radiator. How much was your radiator job?

dead easy job. From memory.....

Disconnect the upper coolant resovoir pipe.
Remove power steering resovoir by pulling up.
Remove expansion tank by pulling up. Take care not to pull it too far as there is a level sensor connector underneath.
Remove lower expansion tank hose.

Installation is reverse of removal as they say. Be sure to replace the tank cap with a new one too.
