hi guys,
I've got a 1998 Volvo S70, base model. No TRACS. I've basically inherited it. It's got 200k miles on it and still chugging along. Ever since i've had it (5 years or so) , the ABS light has been solid. I've done the following to try and remedy it.
Removed Module and resoldered all culprit joints
Tested the resistance at the harness, everything checks out to be 1155 ohms (give or take, they were all spot on but within the correct range)
The weird thing is, the speedometer has worked fine for about 3 or 4 years. I unplugged the ABS module and it completely stopped working (which is a dead giveaway that the module is bad) but worked fine when i plugged it back. Should i just bite the bullet and have someone scan it or pick up a scan tool that can read volvo abs codes? or just replace the module?
Thanks!
Ryan

Have the codes read first. Don't know if you have any auto stores that still do free code checks but worth a try. Depending on results, then contact Matty Moo at Mid-West ABS for a guaranteed good unit if that is what is required. Downside is that as you have already re-worked your unit he may say no to it being returned as a core. His repairs are excellent and 100% guaranteed with Lifetime warranty at an excellent price.
From what you have written you have a classic case of ABS module failure or wiring harness plug wiring or fitment issues. Get the codes and talk to Matty.
Neil.

Thanks for the reply. I've got a pretty nifty scan tool, but unfortunately it won't read ABS codes on a volvo. Do you happen to know if any car parts store in particular have scan tools that can read the Volvo ABS codes? I've gotten a refurbed unit from Mid-West ABS before and you're 100% right, great turnaround and price.
Also, aside from cold solder joints, what else in these things bites the dust? IC's? connections?
Thanks!

Vol-fcr is all you need and it's around 20-30$ on e-bay with cable.

well gentlemen, it appears as though i need to pay more attention while soldering. i completely missed the two large pins and focused only on the smaller pins on the connector. she's working now after a quick spin around the block. thanks for the time!
