I don't know what kind of gas to use for my car?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I don't know what kind of gas to use for my car?

Post by obdshawn »

Your Volvo was engineered to run regular unleaded 87 octane gasoline. A 2000 Volvo S80 was neither a premium required or a premium recommended automobile. The use of a higher octane gasoline would neither give you better performance or fuel economy, it would simply be a waste of your hard earned cash.

According to my owners manual for my 2004 S80 T6 91 octane is required. I still have my owners manual for the 2002 S80 T6 that was totaled and it also says 91 octane is minimal required rating as well. It may depend on which engine your car is equipped with. I have driven Volvos with turbo charged engines since the 1990's and all of them premium fuel was recommended or required. Really it is just a few dollars more per tank in the scheme of things.
My Volvo cars owned

1996 960 ordered
1998 S90 ordered totalled after 3 weeks
1998 V70 GT dealer stock car
2002 S80 T6 ordered totalled
2004 S80 T6 dealer stock car and current car owned

My 96 850 NA was a lot happier on 89 than 87, especially during the summer.

The turbos are either 90+ or 91+ depending on the year.

2006 S60 2.5T AWD, ice white on oak textile
