I am having similar starting problems with those of another member. He seemingly solved it be changing the fuel injector relay connection.
I went to look for mine under the top of the radiator shroud, but no luck its not there. I looked all around thinking I may have not put it back (recently replaced the radiator) and can't find it even around the radiator fan area. From what I could see with pictures, it does not have a particularly long connector, so it seems unlikely I lost it inside the engine. Is it located somewhere else on these models?

Okay- I look at my 1999 S70 when it got home. Its a non-turbo so it has a slightly different configuration. It appears to not have a relay either where the 850's are located.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think with the advent of ME7 the relay got moved into the fuse box area, lower deck
On edit..it's upper deck, number one position , nearest the driver fender relay number 1in the diagram below

Thank your for the info. I know there are minor variations from model to model, year to year, but this one was driving me crazy. I have been dealing with an intermidant crank no, start like another member, and I was sure I would find the smoking gun as I was having almost the exact same symtoms! I replace the fuel pump relay, but the problem still exists. Back to the drawing board!

If the no-start is worse when the engine is hot, that sure points to something electrical. Is it no-crank or crank-but-no-start?
Does your car have an air pump, so that in relay positions 11 and 12 (positions 15 and 16 in the owner's manual http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... 70_102.htm) both relays are there and they are the same spec? If so, I would try swapping them.
Also try pulling and re-seating all 5 fuses in the relay/main fuse box.
