First time posting in the "Non-Car" section. Its kind of interesting here. Anyway I have some question about car titles and Im hoping someone has more insight than me on the subject. During the Christmas break of 2015 my 850 wagon turbo was caught in the middle of a tornado. She suffered some damage and of course the insurance company totaled it but they also said the car would never be drive-able again. I was not in a position where I could do much about it. The car is living at my family's home while I have been out of the country attending school. The tornado hit while I was visiting. It hit the day after Christmas. What luck right? I was a bit overwhelmed by the situation since our house was destroyed in the process. I told them I was keeping the car for parts or what ever and she is still sitting there with a tarp over top. Im not sure what the insurance company did to the title. I cant find my original at the moment. I gues my real question here is there any way I can legally drive the vehicle again? I was looking over the photos from the damage and I dont see any real structural damage. At least nothing like what the adjuster was going on about. In the long term I would like to get her running again and back on the road. A lot of sentimental value in that car. Anyways, i would appreciate any info you guys have.
Thanks, -Z

Each state's law(s) can be different.ZionXIX wrote:...car titles...insurance company totaled it but they also said the car would never be drive-able again...
In my state, there is a way for a vehicle to never be licensed again, but I believe the tittle owner is the only person who can do this.
Salvaged Vehicles in Texas - Texas has strict guidelines about what constitutes a salvage vehicle, how to go about getting a salvage title issued, who may buy or sell a salvage vehicle, and how to bring a vehicle out of salvage status. Before attempting to either get a salvage title or to repair a salvage vehicle and return it to the road, we recommend that you read the very comprehensive Salvage Dealer and Motor Vehicle Information publication issued by the Texas DMV.
