My 850 died...what's next?

Post by volvofornia »

Hi together,

Well after a few month having a blown head gasket and some other issues with my 850 turbo I have to say that she was biting the dust last Tuesday.

I made it back safe and sound on the back of a towing truck and my first 850 is standing back home at my lot now. I decided not to throw any more money at her and give her away.

Question: What would you do now? I I live around LA and maybe somebody knows what I can do now with her? Sell her for parts? Let her transport to a junkyard?

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

I've donated old cars to the local fire department which uses them to train responders in how to cut open a car. You get a certificate for a contribution, and thus a tax deduction.

In my area there are any number of charitable organizations that accept donations of cars. They will show up and tow the car at no cost to you. No muss, no fuss.

Donating it isn't a bad idea, and sometimes the tax write off is more than you could get for it otherwise.
Depending on the condition, you could throw it on Craigslist and take your chances, or sell it to the pull a part. People are always looking for dirt cheap projects or parts cars on CL.

^^^ I think it all depends on the condition of the rest of the car.

If the rest of the car is relatively nice, someone may be interested in transplanting an engine into it. If it's tired cosmetically, worn out or has other issues, it's probably time to donate or scrap it.
