I have the infamous "Alarm System Service Required"/Siren issue. This is a second car which gets driven maybe once or twice a week to the grocery store. Recently the battery has been draining and the car won't start. I'm not willing to pay the $400+ to have the siren module replaced (I don't think the car is worth $1k, and no one is going to steal it), and I'm not getting a reply from the Volvo dealer regarding my query about having the alarm system removed via software update.
So my question is, if I remove the fuse (#38 I believe), what functionality am I going to lose? Obviously the alarm (fine) and the sunroof (don't use so don't care) but will anything else stop working? Specifically will the doors still unlock via keyfob?
In the long term I still hope to get the software update done, but I need a car that doesn't die on a weekly basis.
Thanks for any info!

As far as I know, no. The lights will still flash when the immobilizer triggers or a door is forced open. I pulled the fuse off my wagon and it only says alarm system service after the alarm is triggered.

Just a side note. When I went to get new keys made I had to replace my dead siren to get VIDA to complete the task. Either that or my indie vacuumed me for $200.
Maybe you could just pull the plug on the siren? I can't imagine not using my sunroof, but I need the Viamin D on my bald head

When I pulled the fuse for the alarm(only way to stop it from sounding) I did not at that time loose my sunroof. That only happened when my battery ran down and was left that way unattended for a couple of weeks and then I removed battery to recharge and test the battery. battery tested bad replaced and uttelmentally found alt bad

I run for a while with the siren connector unplugged (from inside the wheel well). Only the message came at each start - had to clear it at each start. Everything in the car worked, including the hazards if the alarm was triggered.
Will pulling the fuse disable the sunroof?
