'06 XC70 blower motor

Post by trimjimmy »

The blower motor (climate control) of my 2006 XC70 is squealing like a trapped rat.
I perused posts gaining knowledge on how to remove and replace the motor (I found this post exceptionally helpful:

but I was wondering...

is it worth trying first to lubricate the bearing?
Will I gain significant time, or will I simply have to remove all that stuff again in the near future?

And, if replacing the motor, need I replace the regulator as well?

Thank you

If you're not buying a new original unit - since I don't trust aftermarket ones and used ones all have same issue - I've disassembled mine and fixed the bearings. Make sure to sand the rust off the center rod that extends on top of the blade piece, so the blade can slide off.

Blower fan has a crappy bearing, I don't think lubricating it will help for a long. You can try, but make sure you don't put that damn screw back (you'll know which one ;) ), so next time the bearing asks for lube you won't have to fight the screw.

As above, it's the upper bearing that starts seizing, without removing the fan lade piece it is not accessible. It has to be removed and cleaned, lubrication of any kinds will not refurbish it.
