Hi,
I've searched high and low and could not find a definitive answer so posting here in hopes of finding direction. I am looking for the Volvo workshop procedure (VIDA or VADIS I guess?) on the replacement of the timing belt including the water pump and usage of the cam holding tool etc. I have seen countless videos and write ups for non-turbo vehicles and know and understand the basic concepts etc. What I am looking for thou is the actual procedure with confirmed torque values, use of the tool and specifications for the tensioner install (hot-warm-cold setting). I am also unsure if I use any gasket sealer on the waterpump gasket (I have the Aisin one).
thank you very much.

Konrad,
I have 2 cars:
- 1998 S70 GLT
- 2005 XC90 2.5T
Similar engine design with 2 major differences:
1- XC90 has VVT.
2- XC90 has mechanical tensioner.
Otherwise is basically the same idea.
I wrote a DIY for my 1998 S70, you can see the Aisin WP and its gasket, the Serp. Belt, TB, etc.

To do your XC90 successfully, all you have to do is:
1. Read the DIY above for the 1998 S70.
2. The exception is turn the crank CW past the timing marks for 90 degrees or so, then CCW to the marks.
By doing so, you release the tension on the spring inside the VVT sprockets.
3. The mechanical tensioner has been discussed in many places. There is a nice youtube video by FCPEuro.
For my XC90, I have all the parts at home and plan to do the whole thing (serp. belt, serp. belt pulley, TB + its tensioner, tstat etc.) in 1-2 weeks.
If you can wait, then I will post a DIY soon.
