My new car :)

A mid-size luxury crossover SUV, the Volvo XC90 made its debut in 2002 at the Detroit Motor Show. Recognized for its safety, practicality, and comfort, the XC90 is a popular vehicle around the world. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America). P2 platform.

Thought it was time to join the XC90 club and bought myself one the other day. Cheap because no compression on cylinder 3 (burnt exhaust valve). Head is currently at the machine shop. Can't wait til I can drive it! :)

Nice job. Was the task harder than on the older models?

No it's about the same. Only differences from other heads I've replaced is that this one has two VVT Hubs and the thermostat can't be bought separately, you have to buy the whole housing with the temp sensor.

Looking forward to hearing that this is running and your first road trip was a success. While you are doing this, you should consider upgrading the plastic vent coming out of the thermostat housing. Many folks have gone to brass (including me) and it's a lot better and more reliable. You can probably assemble the motor ok with the stock part, but the next time you need to change a timing belt or service the thermostat, the plastic vent will get broken.
