v40 diesel dies

hi, i've just bought a 2000 v40 diesel turbo direct injection, it has developed a annoying fault, if you drive on a very light throttle at around 30 -40 mph, for 2-3 mins or are waiting at a junction it just cuts out, it restarts immediately, no check engine light comes on, it drives fine other wise. it has done 90k with service history. any ideas anyone ???

I've got a similar problem and have had for the last two years. The garage thought that it was a fuel problem but has been unable to fix it. Told me that they have seen particles in the filters similar to those caused by the fuel pump dealing with petrol instead of diesel, but it has never had the wrong fuel.
Could there be a sensor that is faulty or a cut off valve? I have had the car from new and, apart from this problem, has served me well.
