Geartronic "W" button by shifter
Geartronic "W" button by shifter
My button acts like it is stuck in the down position. No movement up or down, at all. I see no indication on the dash or led in the button. So do I try and pull it up?

Try removing the plastic trim pry with a butter knife on each side, then depress two front clips and undo the other trim. You should have better access to the button which may be stuck with some aged coffee.
The W button is not very useful and must not be left ON because it puts stress on the transmission.

the input from that button is a momentary ground. If it is closed for too long the TCM ignores it. When you depress it on a P3 you don't really feel anything. Your symptoms are those of too much sugar sweetened cola or coffee in the switch. You can try spraying a little water, witing a minute and then using shop vac to suction out water. Repeat a couple of times
Thanks for the input. I was a little apprehensive at prying old plastic, so I got my can of Rem Oil and sprayed around the button. 30 seconds later and a little movement is noticed. A short time and I applied another shot around the button. Now when I touch the button, it moves up and down. Rem Oil has some teflon and the oil evaporates overtime. My guns love it.

I pulled mine apart and cleaned it when I had my centre console out, after completely taking it apart and cleaning everything up I don't notice that much difference. Honestly I wouldn't even bother.
If I paid attention to signs with little symbols I’d never find anywhere to park.

Mine got sticky after I cleaned one time. Clearance between the button and the trim panel is tight and the conditioner I used left a sticky film: made it not want to pop back up. Make a diluted solution of non sticky cleanser (like carpet cleaner or windex) that will get frothy with a small detailing brush (or soft bristle tooth brush) with just enough solution to get down along the sides without dripping through. Don't let it dry: suck it up with a vac. Reapply conditioner/surface treatment carefully so as not to make it sticky again. This is also how I get the console/crevices/radio/stalk buttons/vents etc. all cleaned up and looking like it just rolled out of the dealer. Also works nicely for icky TV remotes and the like. Phil Hartman yes I know I might be a little.

Just make sure you put it back in the right way. Poor Matt has been pushing his for 19 years and wondering why he doesn't have a manual...
