'99 V70 Rough Running & Low Compression on Cyl. #3

Car's at my local shop for some stuff I couldn't do in a cold driveway. It was running rough when it went in. I had replaced the ECT & thermostat and plugs and coil packs but still running rough so mechanic decided to do a compression test. 1,2, 4 & 5 -- 175 lbs. all, 3 at 125 lbs. Scanned for codes and although no CEL, it did show a 1081 pending, which I believe is an immobilizer code.

Could an immobilizer code cause the rough running and low compression, or am I looking at a burning/burned valve?

That code is probably just a glitch in the key start procedure, not related to engine problem.

Crap on rye bread. Get some oil in the cylinder and retest to rule out rings

Mechanic put some oil treatment in along with the recent oil change and took it out for an Italian tune up. No more missing. He said unlikely it is a valve problem since they are not intermittent.

Outstanding Counselor.

I had two keys made for my 1999, and they messed the first two up. Now I have three keys that work and two keys that open doors and trunk only.

Observation on immobiliser faults with 1999 ME7

The first ignition try the engine catches, runs one second and stops. Subsequent key turns give cranking only, no ignition ( I believe it's spark that is inhibited )

You don't get the run-halt behavior again until you start the car with a good key. Whatever flag is set in the ECU sticks until a good key sequence start is successful
