broken spring in ignition switch 850 turbo
broken spring in ignition switch 850 turbo
Car starts fine, but the key doesn't jump back to run position when I let go. Does anyone know whether the spring involved is in the electrical switch or the mechanical lock?

It's in the electrical switch. I replaced mine for that very reason. (I could manage to turn the key all the way back to Position II for "run", but not everyone in the family could master that, and someone had some scarey rides home with no lights...) It's a pretty straightforward replacement, too. You can source a replacement from pretty much all of your favorite parts places and MVS sponsors.

I used to have to jiggle the ignition switch to get the headlights to come on after I started my 96 850 Turbo. Replaced the ignition switch with genuine Volvo, around $70 or so from FCP (if I remember right), and that took care of the issue. It's like a 10-15 minute job, easy-peasy.
