Horn relocation

Post by hausmeister »

I read the article about horn relocation, but I couldn't really figure it out - so I did it my own way ;)
I know it won't increase performance, but imo there is no reason to put the horns before the cooler where they block airflow.

Anyway here are some pix ;)

At first i couldn't figure out where to put them, so i removed the battery+tray and part of the airbox

Image

underneath the batterytray are 2 Holes that conveniently have the same threading as the horn-screws.

Image

It's not pretty, but it does the job: I used some aluminium that i cut to fit and mounted the horns on it

Image

Then, sneaking the wires back in and with the new horn-mount in place

Image

Free airflow :D

Image

I didn't really bother to check if there is a rigth or left horn - I can live with non-stereo honking ;)

Well that's it for my first mod on my s70 :)

Good job! Looks like they're pointing down too...even up in there they could get some water, so how you did it was right! Matthew should pin this thread too along with the original one about horn relocation.

Thx :)

I doubt they'll get wet - the plasik guard (splashguard?) of the engine is right below them. Also you are not really able to see them when the battery is installed(no need for fancy stuff).

Just relocated my horns. Of the two "holes" on the drivers side, just in front of the SAS pump, one was too small and the other was more of a notch than a hole. Regardless, I bored out the one hole and fixed a horn there. On the second (with the notch) I tightened the factory horn bolt down pretty hard. I gave it a good tug and assume that it will be secure even through the bumps and vibrations.

It may not give HP, but I feel better with more undisturbed airflow across the rad and cooler.

Funny that this thread popped up again, as this is exactly what I did today. I know it probably does nothing except placebo in your head, but I'll be driving through 115 degree heat tomorrow and any little thing that might POSSIBLY help is welcome.

Amen. I don't think the volume of air passing through is increasing, so much as the air doesn't become turbulent when passing by.

That, and the cabin pressure from being closer to the ground adds a few dB's to my horns

Actually, turbulent airflow across a heat exchanger is more efficient in removing heat than smooth flow.
