Pop while backing in rear - only once and only while turning Topic is solved

1999 V70 XC AWD 2.4T

Whenever I put it in reverse and it is turning I get a pop from somewhere under/toward the rear seats. I don't have any easy way of getting the car in the air at the moment. The AWD is working, but I think I smelled a little gear oil last time it was in use - need to check all the seals. It doesn't sound like a tire rubbing or anything.

Any rough ideas as to what I should check and where the next time I can get it off the ground that would likely cause a single pop? It only happens while backing and is always repeatable while turning...

I used to get a weird pop every now and then from the parking brake. I stopped using it and the noise stopped. But our car isn't an XC.

Glad we could help you troubleshoot this!

I have the typical breaks in the rubber housing surrounding my parking brake and bought new parking brake cables but have been so lazy to replace them! I hear they're a bear of a job... I think I'll replace them when I swap out my rear endlinks this Spring...
