2003 Volvo C70 how to set the vvt on the exhaust camshaft?

Post by wolfgang4999 »

i recently posted on here concerning how to set the vvt timing on my volvo 2.4l turbo engine. i solved the piston hitting valve problem. now i thought id put the engine in time but when i try to start it the engine turns slow and backfires through the intake and wont start. can anybody give me instructions on how to set the vvt on the exhaust? ive watched some videos and read some articles but they dont explain it so that a dummy like me can understand it. can anybody just give me step by step instructions in laymans terms that i can understand? also when im cranking it the tach goes crazy jumping all over. thank you

Have you a camshafts locking tool? If not, I doubt you can do this procedure correctly. It is possible to set vvt without any special tool (even if engine is equipped with 2 vvt's - on both camshafts), but it is not a work for a newbie. Nothing personal. I can try to help you, but it will NOT just a step-by-step instruction.
If my English is bad, please correct me

I thought you never pulled the VVT hub? If you didn't, why do you need timing instructions? It has marks...

If possible, I'd like to buy the car today. PM me a price.

newbie my rear!!!! just like you were wrong when you said theres no way a valve would stick open! well my friend, it did and i explained in my other post why if you bothered to read my reply. and by the way i appreciate the help offer but this newbie figured it all out himself! car is running like a top now and no thanks to any of you geniuses, no offense. the cvvt solenoid was shot. replaced it and fired right up after i set time and i set it just like it was when i removed everything. the same way ive been setting it all along and no its not for sale!!! thank you and good day mate!

also i didnt pull the vvt hub! i thought maybe somehow it got out of wack. id never worked on a car with that on it before and ive timed alot of cars no problem. some i could probably with my eyes closed but i understand how a vvt hub works now because i sat my lazy butt down and read everything i could find on them after i posted this last post and im sure this "newbie" could set one remove and replace one or whatever now with no problem. my only problem was i was lazy. i wanted someone to tell me how to do it instead of sitting down and researching it on my own! much more understandable and rewarding! thanks!
