Head gasket? No start
Hey guys, I'm new here and need some advice. I recently purchased an 07 S40 2.4i from a repo auction . I knew it may have some problems but it ran pretty decent at time of sale. It has 116,000 miles and is in showroom condition as far as the body and interior. Now to the problem, it was missing the oil filler cap and someone had shoved a rag into the fill hole to stop oil from blowing out I guess. After winning it I had to immediately remove it from the property so I attempted to drive it home which was about 12 miles. It ran and drove great for about 7-8 miles and then started to skip and run rough when coming to a stop, to the point where I had to feather the gas to keep it running. Then as I was turning into my neighborhood, it started to rattle as if overheating(but the temp gauge never showed overheating), and then shut off. When I coasted into my driveway, smoke was coming from the hood, after opening the hood, I found milky oil had blown from the fill hole. It sounded as though it had low or no compression. I pulled the plugs and found the 3 center plugs to be soaked with water and the outside 2 cylinders dry. How tolerant are the bottom ends, do they typically get damaged or does the gasket blow? Also, what are the chances of the head cracking versus warping? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I see this all the time.
Check for melted coil packs. If okay, mill the head and replace the head gasket. Make sure the lifter (tappets) go back in the same locations they came out of.
If the car sat for a while soak the rings because they get stuck causing low compression.
If the car sat for a long time the engine could be rusted out.
When you have the head pulled you can check for deck clearance and look at the gap between the cyl. walls. They should all be the same.
