940 Speedometer

Post by tocas »

Hi ! :D

My Volvo is the 940 SE Break with the B200FT engine, (2000cc turbo). My speedometer went up and down when the car was stoped for a long time, but after running a few kilometers was fine, until now.
The car was stoped, the speedometer did the same, and then stop working:
- Everyone could help me about a probable reason ?
- Where is the speedometer goes get is input signal ?

Regards

The sensor for the speedo is mounted in the differential housing. It works by sending pulses to the speedometer.

I had a 960 with a similar problem which was cured by replacing the sensor.

It is an easy job. Just unscrew the retaining ring and pull the sensor out, disconnect the wiring and do the opposite to put the new one in.

:D Thanks Bill of Durham

I did that, and it works. The problem is that my break as a rear live axle and has a suspension bar in front of the sensor, to take the speedo sensor out it was necessary to disasemble that suspension bar, wich his out of my capacity. So the only thing I could do was to put trough a straw some WD40 oil in the external contacts of the sensor, and it works.

Your ex-960 was a 3.0L or 2.5L ? Was a reliable car ?

I am glad it worked. It does not really matter how you did it so long as the end result is success.

My 960 was the 3.0 litre and was very reliable as all of my Volvos have been.
