sunroof, good news, bad news

Post by RussB »

The car in an '01 XC70. The sunroof switch didn't work. I took it apart, and got the sunroof to work...YAY!

When I opened it all the way, it mad a bad crunching noise, and is now stuck open along with the sun shade...BOO :o

So, how do I get this thing shut? Do I have to remove the headliner? Please don't tell me that's the only way (unless it is)

I think I read somewhere way back that the sunshade is meant to be fully open before one operates the sunroof itself.
They can get jammed up I believe?

Ugh. Is there a manual backup tool on a 2001?

The unshaded can be opened either manually or with the motor on both my P80 and P2

I can't move the shade at all. I even had two of us pulling on the shade and it won't budge...to add insult to injury, we just had a thunderstorm roll through.

I was hoping someone would know for sure if there was a manual backup system in an '01

Grab the manual from Volvo manuals online and dig in.

Remove sunroof modesty panels (they will likely break due to age) hiding bolts, unbolt sunroof. Then you'll have access to plastic guides, which broke.

Read Volvo manual how to install sunroof back, it needs to be specially aligned (back side higher than front).

Trying not to steal any thunder here, but have a similar issue and am following intently. Mine works OK, but the shade snaps and pops when you open it, with or without the sunroof. Driving my ADD nuts knowing its bad!!

Does anyone have a good pictorial on this process?? I'll put mine up if someone hasn't trod this ground before!

Cheers!!

I went to this website,

http://workshop-manuals.com/volvo/v70_2 ... nspection/

I donated, downloaded all the crap and still do not have access to the manuals. I think I got taken for a ride.

Is there someplace I can buy a Volvo service manual in hardcopy?

Hey RussB....

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I tore into mine (handing the glass is always unnerving) the other evening and found that the guides were trashed. One was bent like a U... the other was twisted like a pretzel. Both were missing the plastic runners causing it to jam and catch.

Additionally the modesty panels had fallen apart and were jamming parts of the tracks, so it was good to have it all apart to clean and lube. Once I separated the two moving parts, I found the sunroof runs easily and without issue, which is good news!!

Appears that they are both readily available from multiple suppliers... there are a couple of new V70 and XC90 donors in the yards that I'll check before I spend $12/ea for the guides... $22/ea for the panels though.

Hopefully your findings are as hopeful!!
