95 850 Transmission Fault 245

Post by Vanillagrila »

Hello all! I am really in a bind and I'm hoping that someone here has a solution to my problem. I have a 95 850 wagon (2.4 auto) and earlier today, about a quarter mile from my house, the transmission light started blinking, followed by my car stalling, and the cooling fan on full blast. Tranny light still blinking, and car won't start. I have no "Check Engine" light, just the blinking arrow.

After rolling the car home (luckily it was downhill), I checked the blink codes for the transmission. I had code 245 which I gather means "Open or short in Torque limiting circuit" What does that mean? Has anyone ever had this fault and repaired it? The car only has 145,000kms on it, and I love the old girl. Plus last year I pumped $4000 in to her after my water pump took out my timing belt. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

UPDATE:

So I did a bit more troubleshooting here. While the 245 code is the only one I get on the transmission (port A1), when I try and read the codes on the Engine computer (A2) I get no response. Not even a 111 blink... nothing! I checked for continuity along the torque limiter wires between the ECU and TCU and they check out fine. Is it possible that I have a bad ECU and its manifesting itself as a transmission fault?

When I remove the ECU and check the codes again, I still get the 245 code on A1, along with a code for throttle position voltage low (which probably means that the signal is going through the ECU before it reaches the TCU). I'm leaning towards it being the Engine Computer, but before I spend a thousand bucks, is there anyone that has any insight? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I doubt a transmission issue will cause the car to stall. I would start by replacing the ECT sensor since the fan is blowing like crazy and see if it starts and runs after that. If that sensor shorted out, it could cause the system to fail super rich or super lean and cause the car to stall.

Thanks for your reply! The fan stopped blowing after I disconnected the battery and connected again.
