I just drove my 850-R to the ground and bought a used 2010 V70 R-des (3.2 i-6).
I need to flush and replace the coolant but when I started the to drain the system at the radiator petcock valve, nothing came out. The valve turns freely and I even ran the engine to pressurize the system, but to no avail.
Since I bought the car used, the coolant that is in now is green, so most likely not the Volvo blue coolant that should be in there, so I most likely have some mineral or corrosion deposit that many be impeding the flow at the petcock.
I have a Volvo tech that said to leave it and to drain the system at the hoses, but that will not solve the radiator draining problem. Does anyone have experience with this and can offer some guidance? Thanks

I've had trouble with those little plastic valves also. I'm not convinced that radiator clogging is the problem. It might just be that you need to take the valve right out for it to start to drain. Have you done that yet? What the Volvo tech says makes sense. In fact there is a lower hose right next to the valve which arguably would provide for a more thorough draining. For what it's worth, I think the older Volvo stuff was greener than what they are now selling. I say this because I've been using Volvo coolant for a while now and when I opened a fresh container this week I immediately noticed that it was much bluer than I'm used to.

Presumably you have removed the coolant expansion tank cap also?
That normally improves the rate of flow from any sealed system, being the highest point.
